The District Ninja team regularly enjoys the D.C. dive bar scene with its many options, cheep beer, and great music. Barred in DC, an awesome blog about D.C. Bar News and Happenings, recently put out a great list of all these dive bars in the District. Many thanks to all his hard work and effort in creating this list as it is what allowed us to produce this visual. He also classified them by era: “Old-School” and “The New DC Dive.” There’s also information about each dive bar such as neighborhood and the year the bar opened. With such a list and our fandom for D.C. dive bars, a trip to a dive bar followed by a visual on dive bars seemed more than appropriate!
If you hover/click your mouse on the marker, you can see additional data like the bar’s address, neighborhood, and opening year. In addition to mapping the dive bars, we included a bar chart broken down by era and labeled by neighborhood so we could get a better idea of how dive bars are distributed across D.C.’s neighborhoods. You can click here to access the visual in full screen mode. All of them “Old-School,” Dupont Circle has the most amount of dive bars with 7. When it comes to the new era of D.C.’s dive bars, Columbia Heights has the most with 5 and accounts for almost 50% of all the new D.C. dive bars. Enjoy!
